You may have wondered, at some point, who the owner of this rescue is? And what is their story? Well, this blog will explain it all to you. This will hopefully help you get to know me better, and learn more about this rescue, and why I started it!
Who owns this snail rescue?
My name is Hannah Carter, and I am 15 years old. I am from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and am in love with animals! I love all animals, and always have my whole entire life. When I was about 8 years old, me and my only friend at the time, grew a strange interest for snails. Me and her both would catch snails at my grandmothers home, and put them in small habitats we made for them.We have races, name them, feed them, and even pretend that they were a little family. We would make stories about them, and have so much fun with them! At one point, we even began to sneak them to her house, so that she could have some as well. I stayed often at my grandmothers house and became more fascinated with these creatures, until about a year later, when we moved away. When we moved, I was separated from most of the friends I once knew, and animals became my only friends. I spent many days outside looking for slugs and snails, I would keep my findings for a while, and then release them soon after. I never had much success, as many of my snails passed away. But, I continued to love these creatures and keep them I my possession. About two or three years later, I was a bit older, and we had moved again, and I soon became increasingly more interested in keeping snails. I went to my grandmas house in the summer of 2020, I was 13 now, and it was there that I was reunited with the species of snails I once played with as a little girl. I felt a little lost that year, as did most of the world, as a world wide pandemic had just begun. I brought four snails home with me, and keep them in a small plastic container. Once I took them home, my love for them deepened, and I did all the research I could possibly do about snails. I did not know much at first, but I got more snails, and my knowledge increased as I got more experience. Soon, I was answering questions on snail websites, and running my own snail YouTube channel. I was growing rapidly, and so was my passion for animals. I soon had over 30 snail, and I decided, in the spring of 2021, that I was going to start a snail rescue! It sounded absurd, and crazy, but it was like God was telling me that this was something I needed to do. So, I did some research, and started my website. I edited the wheel thing on my parents computer, paid for it myself, and took all the pictures on the website with my phone. I was 14 now, and I was so excited to start this amazing journey! And, after about two months, I had already traveled around the country with my family to rescue snails, let people adopt snails, and help people re-home snails! I had around 70 snails in my care at that time, and I was loving it!
As I am writing this, I am 15 years old, and am coming upon this rescue's first anniversary! I feel like it was just yesterday that all of this happened, and I started this journey. It has been an absolutely incredible journey, and I can not thank God enough for giving me the gifts and passions he did.
Why did I start this rescue?
Well, like I said before, I have always loved animals, especially snails. Starting a snail rescue, or even an animal rescue, was never on my to do list, it was just something I felt like God called me to do. Learning more about God's creation brings joy to me, and taking care of his creations brings even more joy to not only me, but others around me. God showed me that someone so small like me can make an impact in their community with their gifts and passions, if they believe in him, show this world who they really are, and open their hearts to take care of the ones who need it. I never would have thought in a thousand years, that I would be capable of doing the things I do today, but with God all things are possible.
Do I run this snail rescue alone?
Physically, yes. I started this rescue by myself, no friends joined in or helped me, It was a decision I made myself, with the support of my family. However, I wouldn't say that this rescue is just mine, it is God's snail rescue ultimately. He is using this rescue to change me and others around me for his glory. And whatever I do, I do it for him.
I hope you enjoyed this short blog to learn more about me, if you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out! May God bless you!
